Discover our non-flammable batteries

NON-FLAMMABLE BATTERIES

Most cutting-edge non-flammable energy storage solutions

Our team is changing the future of eclectic and portable electronic markets. From smartwatches and solar panels to electric cars, they’re relentlessly developing the most cutting-edge non-flammable energy storage solutions the world has ever seen.

And this innovation is driven by the material, graphene – the thinnest, strongest, and most conductive material within the market. As we were among the first to patent it, our mission is simple: to harness the power of graphene and to provide you with game-changing battery solutions for your everyday life.

Watch this space.

NON-FLAMMABLE BATTERIES

Integral part of everyday life

The Lithium-ion battery – they’ve completely transformed the way we use energy. They hold a significant amount of charge in a small volume, allowing your smartphone, laptop, and even your electric car to run when you need them to. But despite being an integral part of everyday life, they do have safety issues and if shorted, they could cause fire that’s extremely difficult to extinguish and life-threatening.

Enter the Nanotech Energy team who have developed a revolutionary non-flammable battery using graphene, limiting the potential of a flame or explosion and providing a safer battery solution.

SUPER FLEXIBLE & STRONG

What’s graphene got to do with it?

This development of the non-flammable battery wouldn’t be possible without the super flexible and strong material, graphene. It can withstand the volume changes of the battery electrodes during charge and discharge, reducing the chances of an internal short circuit and is an excellent conductor of electricity meaning you get a safer, more powerful battery.

THE ELECTROLYTE

Better electrolytes is key to safer batteries

While wonder material graphene plays an important role in our batteries, there is another component that’s vital in the process: the electrolyte. The electrolyte is made by dissolving a lithium salt in the proper solvent, whereas additives are often used to improve the cycling stability of the battery. Unfortunately, standard lithium-ion batteries use a solvent that’s extremely flammable and would catch fire immediately with a short circuit or an overcharge. Not ideal…

GAME-CHANGER

Practical for use in all weather conditions

After trying a large number of solvents and additive materials, we discovered a new electrolyte that is both stable and made from inexpensive materials, plus easy to manufacture, and, most importantly, isn’t flammable.

In addition to its resistance to fire, the new battery has the ability to operate from -40˚C to +60˚C and is practical for use in all weather conditions. Talk about a game-changer.

Product uses

But how frequently do batteries actually cause fires and is there really a need for our new technology?

In February 2018, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported more than 25,000 incidents where batteries had overheated and caused fires. These incidents involved more than 400 types of consumer products and spanned just five years.

So in short, yes we do need these developments and building safer batteries using graphene will be critical for the future of a safer and more efficient energy storage technology and we’re proud to be breaking this new ground.
